CAMCC Committee

Chair

Ever since the 1960s I have had a camera, starting with square black and white prints, then changing to 35mm slides. Because I used slide film I found the transition to digital quite easy, and I was an early adopter of the medium. My main photographic interests are the natural world, both animate and inanimate, but I am also keen to learn more about creative image making, both in camera and using post processing skills. I currently have two cameras, a Fujifilm X-T4 and GFX50R, with a selection of lenses, and I use the Affinity suit of processing software. I moved to the North Wales area in 2023, and joining the CAMCC was one of the first things I did, so I was honoured when I was asked to be the Chair for the Club.

It feels like I’ve been taking photographs all my life, after I was given my first camera in 1960. It was all plastic, from Woolworths, and took black and white roll-film. I’ve not been without a camera ever since. Some of my favourite subjects are people, landscape, nature, architecture, signs and industrial decay – rust, lichen, peeling paint. I went professional in 2012, trading as The Hooded Lens, finally retiring just before lockdown.

I've been interested in photography since my teens. After using my Grandmother's Kodak Brownie 127, I eventually bought a Pentax ME Super SLR camera in 1979 (which I still have). My main love is landscapes, especially woods and forests, although I am always looking for interesting scenes. My camera presently is a Canon R7 with two lenses and flash unit. I also have studio lighting, a light box and other equipment including tripods etc. Additionally, I have a collection of over 90 vintage and modern cameras which show the development of equipment over the years. I've been a member of the Coedpoeth and Minera Camera Club since February 2019, during which time I have learned so much about photography. This is thanks to some excellent talks and videos as well as getting help and advice from the other members.

I joined the Camera Club in 2021 and have learnt a lot about taking and processing digital photos, though with much more still to learn… I’ve also served as Webmaster, creating the club’s first website and online marking system, stretching my IT abilities in the process! It’s been a pleasure to work with other club members, as we’ve made the move to Pixoroo who host this new website and comps system.

I have been a keen photographer since 1987 starting with Slides and Black and White prints. Being in South Africa I was lucky to take advantage of the unique subject matter there. I have been a member of CAMCC since 2018 and enjoy the interaction with the members and have seen a large improvement in their understanding and eagerness to learn more than just taking photos. I have never really specialised in any one facet photography but have a passion for doing things that are different not always able to be put in a specific category. Photography is an art form and my idea of looking at subjects differently can be seen in a vast range of images. Now with the advent of digital editing the creative opportunities are endless. Working with fellow photographers and sharing ideas and constructive criticism I feel is paramount. This is more relevant in a Club as everyone has different strengths and knowing who they are and what that strength is will be beneficial to the Club as a whole.

I have been taking photographs for over 40 years and have been a member of a photographic club in the Wrexham area for at least 35 years. I spent my early years in photography learning how to develop black and white film and then producing prints in the darkroom. I now use some of that knowledge to produce digital images for projection and in print. I joined Coedpoeth and Minera Camera Club 5 years ago. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and gained my LRPS distinction many years ago. I am also a member of the Landscape group within the RPS and occasionally lead small groups of likeminded photographers under the banner of their Member Led Events. My interests in photography include landscapes and sport, and I take a great interest in producing prints of my photographs in colour and monochrome.
